End of the Year Awards

Well...that time is quickly approaching. It is almost the end of the year! I can't believe it! We were in our grade group meeting and we decided that we needed to order some awards for our students. We give students an award for the top scores in each subject. However, we try to make sure that all students receive one academic award and one fun award.

This year we have decided that we will allow the children to vote for the winners. Another wonderful teacher (Mrs. Shrull) did this with her older children. I adapted that idea for my firsties. I have created fun little awards that are appropriate. I left some numbers blank because I only have 16 students right now...I know I can't believe it either lol but we have had some move away. Also, this allows you to personalize it. If you would like me to add your awards there or if you have more students, please send me a note with your email and I will do this for you and email it! :) I have placed my students names at the bottom because I want them to vote for each person only once. Also, they will really have to think about each others skills and talents. Then, they are able to mark off names as they use them. I think that this is also great because they are learning more about casting votes. This is our first year doing this...so I am excited. I hope that you enjoy this!! Please feel free to leave feedback on TPT :) Thanks!

Spelling Freebie

I have noticed that my students are starting to need motivation with their Spelling Words due to a case of Spring Fever setting in. We do many fun activities, but I was looking for something new to introduce. We have done many movements to sight words at the beginning of the year, but I don't know why I haven't thought of putting it with their Spelling Words.

Then, as I was doing my daily blog reading, I saw on Pocket Full of Kinders a great list of movements to do with their Spelling Words. I made these cute little cards to go with those movements. Feel free to click on the pic to grab yourself a copy. I would appreciate you following my blog! I am working on more freebies to come :)

Oi/Oy Packet.....Let the countdown begin :)

Oh my! It has been a long day!! Another teacher (which is AMAZING!!) and I were selected by our Principal to attend the Common Core training that was set up by our county. It is really interesting and I am very thankful to have been selected to go. However, today it meant that I had to be there 2 hours past my normal time to be in school and the only things we missed were recess and planning...BOOOOOO lol!! I can't believe we aren't teaching money next year!!!!! I just bought all these manipulatives and games. That is going to be so hard to pass up...but ok. :)

I finished my packet for "Simple Machines" from Reading Street Unit 5, Week 3. It focuses on the oi/oy sound and the endings -er/-or. I hope that you enjoy it! I am really learning as I go with all this :) Please download the freebie attached. I can't wait to use it with the kids next week.  I hope that you enjoy it.

I can't believe it, but there are only 5 more Wednesdays until school is out. Where did the time go?? Does anyone have any requests for products or things that they would like to see? If so, comment and let me know! :)

Poetry Intro

Wow! It is hard to believe how fast the school year is passing by. The kiddos did shaving cream spelling. They LOVE this activity! They would love to do this instead of recess lol. I have learned to give them just a tad because if not they are bathing in it and wear most of it I am being conservative. ;)

This week, we are beginning poetry. I was tired of the standard writing wanting to try something new! I decided that we needed to try a new format that I saw on The First Grade Parade. First, the students created acrostic poems with their name. Then, they learned to create Cinquain poems about a topic! I just wanted to share a few things that we are working on. :)

Tag! I'm it!

Hello all! I was tagged by Krista @ The Second Grade Superkids :)

Here are the rules:
1. You must post the rules and link your tag back to the person who tagged you.
2. Answer the questions of the person who tagged you.
3. Create 10 questions of your own for others to answer.
4. Tag 10 people and link it with your post.

1. What is your favorite color to paint your nails?

I love OPI's You're a Pisa Work.

2. Do you have anything that you collect in your classroom to display (ie. I have an obsession with sock monkeys!)

Frogs! I actually chose Frogs because they went with my theme. However, I have collected more and more lol. I also love monkeys!

3. What is something you do every year for open house at your school (ours is coming up and I would love ideas!)?

Well for my first Open House I put out a wishlist of items that we will need. :) Also, I make a cozy little waiting area for my parents. It includes some kind of fresh flowers, candy, and class books that we have made. This is more for conferences. For Open House, we make items for the parents and leave them at their desks.

4. Do you have a pet....do share!?

This is Dasher :) He is amazing. We are not allowed to have pets at school that I know of.

5. What time do you usually wake up and get to school on a typical school day?
I wake up around 5 am each day. Then, I get my boys up around 5:30. I must be at school each day at 6:15 am because I open the computer lab. Teachers normally need to be at our school by 7am. :)

6. What did you dress up as on the last Halloween that you dressed up?

The last thing that I dressed up as....well I don't remember. It's been a while. That was a good question...sorry for the horrible answer lol.

7. What is something silly that you are afraid of? (I am afraid of fish...silly right? or so I am told!)

I am afraid of Freddy Krueger. I know that is insane...but he still brings me nightmares lol. I will definitely have nightmares tonight after looking up this picture lol.

8. What is your favorite part of working at your school, besides the students in your classroom?

My favorite thing about being at my school is my wonderful Principal and Vice Principal. I also love my first grade team :)

9. What tv show do you can you absolutely not miss each week?

I barely have enough time to watch TV so I guess there isn't really a show that I would die if I missed.

10. What is the #1 thing you hope your students leave your classroom remembering at the end of the year?

I hope that my children leave my room remembering that I love them and they can do anything they try!

My Questions:

1. What is your favorite thing to do with your students?

2. How long have you been blogging?

3. What is the one item you are dying to get for your classroom?

4. Where do you get most of your teaching ideas?

5. Heels or Flats? (I saw this question elsewhere and I loved it)

6. How many hours a week do you spend on school outside of school hours? (Blogging, Planning, Grading Papers, etc.)

7. What is your favorite font to use?

8. Where do you get your favorite clipart?

9. What is your favorite beauty product?

10. What is your favorite song to use in Education?
