Journeys- What is a pal?

Well... I am officially in school mode. Last week, I had Common Core ELA training. This week, we have inservice M-R. I have already made a packet for the first story "What is a pal?".

The journeys program has many resources. However, I wanted to make things that I could use in addition to their program. I took a few of the activities that we learned in training and put them to use with the Journeys program. Here is a breakdown of what the packet includes:

Pages 2-8 Words to Know. This includes the words on printable word cards that the students can use to play a game or practice at home. It also has a leveled accountability sheet.

Page 9- Main Idea Sheet

Pages 10-14 Journal Writing and Prompts for writing

Pages 15-17 Leveled Noun Sheets

Pages 18-20 Words to Read One Minute Speed Drills

Pages 21-27 Irregular Words Activity- This is a technique that was at CC.

Pages 28-29 Questioning sheet to glue into their Reading Response Journals

Pages 30- 33 Looking Back.- Students look back to their Leveled Readers to find information. This is a very useful skill for first graders.

Pages 34-52 Word Sort and Leveled recording sheets

53- Word bank

Page 54- Listening Sheet

* Pages 34-54 are from my other Short a pack. I added it to this one.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear feedback. I would love to know if you like it or not and what things you would like to see added or changed. Click the picture to download:

Monday Made-it

I have decided to glamify some clothes pins. I used this paint:
I painted it onto the clips:

Finally, I adhered a little gem stone to the end of it.
I went with less gems lol.

I have been working on changing some things in my room. The longer that I teach the more that I want to simplify things and put up more charts that we make together as a class. I have decided to make this bulletin board on my wall. I struggled though because of trying to adhere the fabric to the wall. We are not allowed to hot glue lol. After much tape, command strips, and hot is the final product:
Reading Nook...I haven't gotten my curtains up yet :)

After on top....before on bottom

I just borrowed some messed up paper from a friend to demonstrate how it will look when it is done.

Monday Made-It, Blog Lovin' and Winner

Hi guys! Well its time for Tuesday Monday Made-It. I tried my best to get this up on Monday....but lol it's summer and it will get done when it gets done.

Last year I made this cute little bell. However, when I was out sick one day a rambunctious child with attention to detail and shiny things adorable special friend peeled off the gems to take home lol. I have since fixed here it is:

Next, I changed my birthday reward. Last year, I did the balloons like everyone else. I am on a mission to save ink and I found these in my closet. Therefore, I made these for the kids for birthdays:

Next, if you have not started using Blog Lovin'....YOU SHOULD. It keeps track of all my blogs that I follow AND it marks them as read. I love it. There is a link on my side bar if you would like to check it out.

Congrats to Julie M. for winning the A.R. pack with OWLS. I hope that you enjoy that!

Monday Made-It!! :)

Hey guys! I have decided to try and maintain a blogging schedule. I think that it might keep me more accountable!! I am spending the day painting my bedroom door. It seems like an easy enough task...but it seems as though I am wearing more paint than the door. I am loving having this house...but I want to start decorating soon. I feel like I have so much to do. I have decided to make separate to do lists for school and for home. Hopefully, Monday Made-It will help me :)

Okay----My made it for today is a clipchart for A.R. testing. My admin have really been pushing the kids to take A.R. tests. Therefore, I have made this clipchart to help motivate them and keep them accountable for their success. I have also made awards to go with each milestone. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do. I put them up for sale on TPT. If you are interested, please click the picture. I can change the milestone amounts if you need me to do so. I will be adding ribbon to hang it on my wall :)

Journeys....Accelerated Reader giveaway

I am desperate for any help or resources with the Journeys program. We are adopting the common core version for next year....only we haven't gotten the actual books yet and I want to start getting ready for next school year. PLEASE contact me at if you are able to help.

Now....on to Accelerated Reader. I had the worst problem last year with kids wanting to sign up for accelerated reader.I made these signs to hang on the back of a bookshelf. I am going to put magnets on the back.I have made frog magnets that have the students number so that they can just move their magnet under the signs. I will then know who's ready to take a test and who is still working. You could also attach ribbon to the back of them and use clothespins to have them move their clip. I have posted about the magnets that I made here. You can get yourself a copy of this by clicking here: A.R./ B.U.I.L.D.

I am thinking about using the colored backgrounds now that I printed and laminated these lol. What do you think?

Giveaway: I will be giving away one packet that has the B.U.I.L.D. (new post coming soon) and these accelerated reader packs. All that you need to do is comment below with either:
1. a Journeys resource
2. Your vote on whether to use the patterned background or the white one.

I have finally finished my closet. This is my small humble closet. I love that I don't have to share it with anyone and the shoe storage is to die for :)

Summer!!!!! I've been waiting for this all year!!

Summer!!!! I have been waiting for this all year lol.

I had a fantastic school year this year. I am definitely working on finding more time for blogging. That is my goal this year. I have had many family issues this year and I am finally back on track for blogging. I am getting ready for the next school year. I love love love getting ready for a new year. I love having time to do things that I want to. I will not be able to add classroom pictures because we are not allowed in the building during the month of June. Instead, I am making things at home and I will be bringing them to school in July.

We are just starting to use the Journeys reading system. I have not seen the teacher's manual. If there is anyone that can help me or knows of resources....please comment or e-mail me. I need help! :)

I have just purchased my first home. I am very excited and I will be posting pictures soon. I am still unpacking and getting things up and running. I have finished planting my beautiful plants and I will be adding more mulch soon. I can't wait! Thank you for your continued support. I can't wait to really blog away now! :)
